UM, see the "CHAOS" post....

Then look for the news article that tells you that the Postal Service is raising the price of postage to $0.41.

FAC This day in history

Well, this is quite the somber FAC mail.

As we look upon the sad events this week at Virginia Tech, we should remember that this Friday is the anniversary of the shootings at Columbine High School.

I guess we should remember to pay attention to our kids, to our co-workers, our neighbors, to our friends and family, to notice their pain and depression, to offer support to them. I probably went through a lot of High School as the "question mark kid". (Actually I was "That girl that wears a cape" or "that freak with the cane") All of us have felt like we were on the outside at some point, and hopefully someone was there for us.

BUT in an effort to celebrate our connections to one another and form better relationships with our friends and co-workers, we really need to keep up the FAC tradition!

So let us all go forth to SLIDERS on Friday afternoon and remember those that have passed, celebrate those we are with and try to humiliate Berri by kicking her butt in trivia!

FAC April 20th at Sliders, 1006 Spring Creek Lane (Shields and Stuart), 4:30pm

Andy Serkis was born on April 20th:

Actually, so was another really creepy guy.....

Nevermind.

You know, not a lot really good happened on the 20th in History, so instead I will show you some fabulous photos selected for your pleasure (click for larger):

Chaos

Well as far as these things go, it isn't real chaos. But the shootings at VTech were quite disturbing to hear about. Also that Chicago has the worst postal system of the country's major cities. At work our servers have been down for 5 days. NOT good for a federal building.

So now it is back up and we are dealing with the repercussions. My wife, who calls me morbid, was watching the news footage of the shooting last night. I went to bed early.

I have a solution for the postal service. They say their carriers are not invested in their jobs because many of them are temps. They probably don't get paid enough or the long term jobs are not available. Instead of raising postage for the average sap sending a x-mas card to granny, raise the rate of bulk mail only. Stop the stupid junk mail. Give discounts for non-profits, and fuck the credit card companies, and Macy's and fuckers who send out conservative "newsletters". If you raise the bulk rate, two things will happen: less junk mail, and more revenue to pay full time permanent mail carriers. Duh.

I am thinking good thoughts toward the families of those who were killed and injured at VTech, and wishing we knew why the guy did it.

FAC skeered

Well, it is that time again....

The end of the week draws nigh. Kids are going to be out of school so the people watching in Old Town will be at peak freak.

I am going into hiding for Friday the 13th. NOT REALLY. I am actually going to be in Denver at the fabulous Oriental Theatre for a very cool event:

Femme Fatale 2
http://virtuous.com/events/v/635378198/2007-04-13.html -- you can see it work
www.myspace.com/femmefataleartcollective -- only can see it at home, but it has pretty pictures

I have helped Alve Beretta, fashion designer (and DJ and artist), sew many of her pieces over the last few weeks. Her art and stuff: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5091835

So I will be gone for FAC, but I think everyone else should go to Luscious Nectar! I had a delicious Ruby Red Grapefruit Margarita! They also have blended Mojitos (fresh mint!), blended white russians, and special drinks nightly.
It is a little pricey, but I recommend at least one to begin the night in style. It is located like 3 doors down (toward the square) from Elliot's Martini bar on Linden Street in Old Town.

PLEASE feel free to take pictures to commemorate the evening so I can share the joy. Have a blended mojito for me, and feel free to drunk text me if you are so inclined....or sober text me even!

FAC

HEY THERE...

I have been waaaaaay busy with some stuff like work, getting in trouble at meetings, and the like. So your FAC announcement is a tad late (way late).

Because of time, space, and general other things we will be going to the SURFSIDE! AGAIN! Yeah, especially since most of us weren't there last week. Plus of course we can always motor to other places later in the eve.

So what? You say you are not yet tired of funny cats with ridiculous sayings in poor grammar and spelling?

Well, do not let me impede your enjoyment of these things.

Box pleats what?

Here is the beginning of my kilt DIY blog. I will post in 3 installments because it will be image heavy.

This was started by my inability to afford more Utilikilts. I found www.xmarksthescot.com. They have tons of posts in the forums about DIY kilts and one guy even wrote up a step-by-step. I may interject now again about what I did different from him, but for the most part his guide is followed to the letter. Well, I must have erred somewhere because my kilt is a little big but that is way better than being too small.

First get the directions here so you can follow along:
http://www.geocities.com/alanhsails/X-Kilt_final2.pdf

To the left you see the black cotton twill I have, 60in wide by 3 yards, ready to be cut on the fold and sewn end to end* to make a 30in wide 6 yd long piece ( I am fat so I need a big kilt).

I have washed it in hot water and dried it on high in the dryer, so it is pre-shrunk and fully washable. I have also ironed out the major wrinkles.
*contrary to directions, but I took the risk and was able to hide the seam in a pleat easily

The first step (after all the measuring) is to hem the bottom.
Here is my hem pinned and sewn.
As you can see, it is folded up toward me and
I folded mine over twice for a neat finish.

I ironed before I sewed it down.
I want this to be a very neat "formal" kilt so I took extra time to keep it very neat.

Here is the framing square I used to make the measurements for the 'fall' and the pleats.
To the lower right is the
fall line and the beginning of the pleat lines
(I numbered the pleats
and marked them all
with hash marks before
drawing the full line)
I am using a flat square tailor's chalk to draw the lines.
