FAC Palindrome

Hey there,

No a Palindrome is not where you find the next Monster Truck Extravaganza. You know what it is, and the date 03/30 is one.
Let's name some others. Otto. Hannah. Civic. Level. Tenet. Rats live on no evil star. Madam, in Eden I'm Adam. Eve.
A man, a plan, a canal: Panama. Do geese see God? Neil, a trap! Sid is part alien! Socorram-me, subi no onibus em Marrocos.
Saippuakauppias.
Here is a link to a really long palindrome. The entire page is on palindrome, although i have not personally checked it for accuracy: http://www.palindromelist.com/longest.htm

Anyway, This is really about FAC isn't it? We should have "cafe FAC". Ha. See how easy that is?
No really, we are going to the SURFSIDE!
Drinks = cheap.
Food = cheap and tasty.
Bartender = typically attractive.
Ambience = dive bar, tattoo art, surfboards and bikes
Music = punk rock juke.
Crowd = we will be the crowd.
Time = 4:30pm

If you're lucky there will be a repeat of last time we were there and there were three (out of five) people at the bar named "Bear" or something that sounded like "Bear".

Bear "Dammit I'm Mad" Bonney

I meant to do that!

From the AP -- Chris Sligh, the curly headed contestant from South Carolina who was voted off "American Idol" this week, said he considered quitting the show two weeks before viewers sent him packing....Sligh also talked to the News about being kicked out of the Christian fundamentalist college, Bob Jones University, for attending a contemporary Christian concert featuring the group 4Him. Leaving Bob Jones "was actually good, because I had been trying to figure out how to leave," he said.

Yeah, I wonder what he is going to say when he gets arrested...."I was just going to turn myself in."

What a douchebag.

FAC lolcat obsessed

Hello all.

Last FAC we managed to survived large packs of dogs, kilted freaks and repetitive Celtic music! Huzzah!
Lucky Joe's was big fun and more people than we thought showed up, so we had a good crowd. We all celebrated being Irish for a day a day early!

We have a request for the Rio as a venue for FAC. I will mention that on a Friday the Rio gets PACKED FAST. The Patio doesn't open until April 1st, so it would best if we could get some RSVPs to get a better idea of number of attendees...we don't want to get too large or small of a table.
So we will start at around 4:30 -- last time we were able to nab a large table by the back of the bar, which was very cool, and the chips and salsa are free and unending!

I would also like to mention that there is a new cab company in town, called Dingo. They are not full service yet, but they are doing weekend nights...and a ride in Ft Collins is only $6! That is from at least Lemay to Overland, and Harmony north to at least Willox (can't remember if they go to LaPorte) And for more than 3 people to or from the same destination, it is only $4 each! Plus they will pick you up at your house, or you can just catch the van at one of the pickup points in Old Town. Vans are brand new club vans and have video screens in them. Pretty cool!

Hope to see everyone there.

FAC March Madness

Hello all,

Aaron A has gone to Vegas for the final playoffubergame of whatever sport everyone is so excited about. Just kidding, I know it is basketball of some sort. I might even know that it is college, or I may be wrong...anyway, it is apparent that I do not follow any sports.

What I do follow, however, is the tried and true, dyed in the wool traditions of our forefathers and mothers and sisters and brothers, traditions that were brought across the ocean and disseminated across the land before basketball even knew what the heck rubber was and Chuck Taylor's mother's mother wasn't even a gamete.

I am not talking about prostitution or Christmas, I am talking about drinking. Or to be more specific, drinking in the tradition of the legendarily drinkingest people of all time (pipe down you germans) THE IRISH.

FAC ST. PATRICK'S DAY!
On a day when everyone can be pseudo-Irish and have an excuse to pinch the crap out of each other, what better way to celebrate than go to a pseudo-Irish bar: Lucky Joe's! We will begin around 4:30 pm, continuing until whenever. Reguler specials listed below, they will have a band called The Commoners playing, and probably have some specials special to St. Pat's. Friday - Fish-n-Chips This Iris
h traditional favorite is done to perfection every Friday for $5.95. Add Clam Chowder if you're real hungry. Happy Hour 3 - 7 with a half priced snack menu and $1 off all wells, wines and drafts :) Here is your official St. Patty's Day greeter:

The if you hear a rustle in the hedgerow, don't be alarmed now, this is the gateway to the land of Faerie:

And here is the dude that started it all, by supposedly sending the snakes out of Ireland which is of course a metaphor for Bobby Knight out of the NCAA tournament so early.... Or something....

Kilt-y fresh

I am excited to make my own kilt. I am going to document it in pictures, because I can now that I have my own digital camera.

I found the easy pattern in the DIY section of www.XMarkstheScot.com.

I am only confused about one part of the pattern, which is the excessive (seems to me) amount of apron layers.

Nevertheless, I strive forward, toward the bliss of a new, dressier, un-bifurcated garment.

I will post a pic of my Utilikilt along with my first construction blog.

Take it away Willie, with "Faded Love"......
gotta love iTunes party shuffle.

Hey, technology.....and cars

So I was in the automated car wash the other day, sitting there while my car was buffeted on all sides by jets of water, and I saw a curious sign. It read "If car wash stops, stay in car and call 123-1234" (or whatever the number was). I was thinking to myself: What happens if you don't have a cell phone? Do you get out of the car? Do you just sit there until help comes? Is the cell phone really so prevalent that we assume everyone has one?

I can't find the reference for you, but I know that it was within the last couple of years that a certain part of the rural southern US got their first LAND LINES for phone service! Based on that I wouldn't assume universal cell phone ownership.

The trend continues on down the road, to the emergency services on highways. Now, instead of signs announcing call boxes, there are signs telling you to call *123 (again, whatever the number is) on your cell.

Luckily we CAN assume everyone has AM/FM radio by this point, right? So the signs saying "tune dial to AM 1060 for weather updates" are still applicable. Welllllll, no. AM radio is well on it's way out of the picture, as music players, when they have radios, do not typically have the AM feature. Still standard in cars, but the prevalence of after-market sound systems is eliminating radio altogether.

When I went out of town I took my new laptop, new digital camera, my son had his iPod, I had my cell, he had his cell. We had at least one AC power cord for each item, and then car chargers, rechargeable battery charger (AC and car), and of course cables for them to communicate with each other. It actually makes me feel good to charge things while I am driving -- I feel as if I am getting more out of my fuel emissions.

Well, I am supposed to be working. I am making a kilt tonight, and a dress, but that is after i go help my friend with some sewing and before karaoke....

FAC

Well, here we are again in the middle of another week. I survived my trip to Utah and Idaho, now I am back.
You know, when I was a little kid my mom would put me in this T shirt that said "Eat, Drink, and Be Merry, For Tomorrow You May Be In Utah". I understood what the joke was, but didn't understand why everyone thought it was SOOOO funny, because my family that lived in Utah drank plenty.
This trip was no different.
However, I would much rather make merry with my friends here in FoCo, so I must insist that we have a rockin' FAC this week. Next week is Spring Break, so let us hearken back to our youthful days and make this a good one!

I vote we start the evening at Pitcher's, because it is close, and pretty dang cheap, and it has trivia, which I am itching to play again!

4:30 PM ish on Friday of course, be there or be a polygon with four equal sides, four right angles, and parallel opposite sides.

I hope to see many of you there!

Here is a picture of some crocus to remind you that spring is on it's way:

And to give you perspective so you don't get your hopes up, let's remind you what spring is like in Colorado:
